New participants call to schedule a FREE fitness assessment. Meet with a physical therapist for a 30-minute assessment, where the therapist will evaluate your walking, balance, strength and more. Parkinson’s Dance Studio

Parkinson’s Dance Studio

Parkinson’s Dance Studio class is based on the Dance for PD model of the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group. The class draws on modern dance, jazz, ballet, tap and folk dance. It is a fun way for people to get together, move (seated, standing, or both) and enjoy music. No experience necessary. Capistrant Tai Chi for Parkinson’s and Wellness

Time and days: 10-11 a.m., Mondays. First-time participants are encouraged to attend orientation the first Monday of the month at 9:30 a.m.

Location: Bethesda Hospital, seventh floor conference room

Cost: $5 per session. First session is free for beginners. Attend seven, get the eighth session free! No charge for caregiver/carepartner.

Registration is required.

Tai Chi is a Chinese exercise of slow circular movements that help promote energy flow and a sense of well-being. This Tai Chi can be done standing or sitting in a chair. You will receive multiple benefits either way.

This Tai Chi class is designed especially for people with Parkinson’s disease. It is designed to help improve the following: balance, coordination, concentration, strength and mental well-being.

The class meets every Monday from 10 to 11 am, except for on holidays. New participants: please come the first Monday of the month at 9:30 am for orientation. Cost is $5 per session. Attend 7, get eighth session free. No charge for caregiver/carepartner. First session is free for beginners.

Mats are provided at this weekly Gentle Yoga class for people with Parkinson’s. The gentle poses are modified for the individual, although participants must be able to stand unassisted and have no significant blood pressure fluctuations as they change positions.
