PWR! Classes Offered in St. Paul!

PARKINSON’S WELLNESS RECOVERY
We are excited to offer the PWR! exercise program in St. Paul. PWR! (Power) is an evidence based program designed to assist people with mild to moderate Parkinson’s disease to improve their posture, mobility, agility, endurance, strength, and function.  It is appropriate for ANY adult who is able to get on/off the floor without assistance. Individuals will work at their own ability level with adaptation made as needed.  Bring a yoga mat to class.

St. Paul Parks & Recreation is offering PWR! at the Highland Park Community Center (formerly Hillcrest) in 3 separate series of 6 weeks, 2 sessions per week beginning January 6, 2015.

Registration required for the series or drop-in attendance. Limited to 20 participants.

Capistrant Tai Chi for Parkinson's and Wellness

Time and days: 10-11 a.m., Mondays. First-time participants are encouraged to attend orientation the first Monday of the month at 9:30 a.m.

Location: Bethesda Hospital, seventh floor conference room

Cost: $5 per session. First session is free for beginners. Attend seven, get the eighth session free! No charge for caregiver/carepartner.

Registration is required.

Tai Chi is a Chinese exercise of slow circular movements that help promote energy flow and a sense of well-being. This Tai Chi can be done standing or sitting in a chair. You will receive multiple benefits either way.

This Tai Chi class is designed especially for people with Parkinson’s disease. It is designed to help improve the following: balance, coordination, concentration, strength and mental well-being.

The class meets every Monday from 10 to 11 am, except for on holidays. New participants: please come the first Monday of the month at 9:30 am for orientation. Cost is $5 per session. Attend 7, get eighth session free. No charge for caregiver/carepartner. First session is free for beginners.

Struthers Gentle Yoga

Mats are provided at this weekly Gentle Yoga class for people with Parkinson’s. The gentle poses are modified for the individual, although participants must be able to stand unassisted and have no significant blood pressure fluctuations as they change positions. Time and days: 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday

Location: Capistrant Center at Bethesda Hospital B-Level Physical Therapy Gym

Cost: $5 per session. Scholarships available

Fitness 2 for Parkinson’s and Memory Loss provides unique exercise opportunities that stress important components: cardiovascular, stretching, strengthening and balance.

Be ready to be exercise, challenge your strength, balance, flexibility and have fun!

Dress in comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.

New participants call to schedule a FREE fitness assessment. Meet with a physical therapist for a 30-minute assessment, where the therapist will evaluate your walking, balance, strength and more. This is a comprehensive, active exercise class designed to work on increased strength, flexibility, balance and agility. It emphasizes larger movements.
