This is a comprehensive, active exercise class designed to work on increased strength, flexibility, balance and agility. It emphasizes larger movements. Capistrant Fitness 1 for Parkinson’s and Memory Loss

Time and days: 10 to 11 am, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Parkinson-Friendly Communities Mankato

NPFM welcomes those living with Parkinson’s and the entire greater-Mankato area to learn more about the organization and its efforts to work with the community to make it more Parkinson-Friendly through outreach, education and events.

NPFM is the Minnesota chapter of the National Parkinson Foundation, operating as a local nonprofit working to raise awareness and funds for the upper Midwest Parkinson’s community. The organization works to better the lives of those living and impacted by PD through outreach and providing resources.

The creation of Parkinson-Friendly communities is possible through a generous grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation. The effort works to ensure individuals and families touched by Parkinson’s remain vibrant, engaged members of our communities. NPFM has been working in several communities around the state including Alexandria, Willmar and Fargo, and are excited to expand into Mankato.

Time and Days: Wednesdays from September 24-November 5, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Location: Phalen Rec Center, 1000 Wheelock Parkway, St. Paul

Cost: $40/person

This beginning-level class is for those who are interested in learning T’ai Chi Chih, a relaxing meditation based on the Chinese philosophy of promoting vitality, longevity, inner peace, balance and joy. Experience more abundant health, relieve stress and heighten mind-body awareness.

Participants may perform the T’ai Chi Chih movements standing, seated or using a chair for balance. Wear comfortable clothing and flat, soft-soled shoes or heavy socks. This activity is co-sponsored by HealthEast Capistrant Center and is a Parkinson’s Friendly program.
