Learn about the latest advances in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease from neurologists and clinical experts from University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, and University of Minnesota Physicians on May 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Commons Hotel in Minneapolis.
Sessions include topics like: medications, aware in care kits, deep brain stimulation, stretch/rehabilitation and research. There will also be time for questions. And lunch is included.

Struthers Club CREATE Therapeutic Day Program

Capistrant Fitness I

Fitness 1 is designed for participants who can self-direct their exercise program, walk independently with/out assistive device, and need hands-on assistance less than 50 percent of the time. $5 cost per session.

This unique exercise program stresses components of strengthening, stretching and aerobics.  Fitness classes are supervised by a recreation therapist who will provide guidance to complete exercises, provide assistance as appropriate and monitor response to exercise. The recreational therapists are trained professionals with experience working with people with Parkinson’s disease. Fitness I, II and III are designed to provide fitness opportunities for participants across the continuum of their disease. A free Fitness Assessment is required prior to joining Fitness I, II or III classes.

 

Capistrant Fitness II

Fitness  II is designed for participants who need minimal hands-on assistance with walking and transferring and moderate direction for exercise participation. Cost $7 per session.

This unique exercise program stresses components of strengthening, stretching and aerobics.  Fitness classes are supervised by a recreation therapist who will provide guidance to complete exercises, provide assistance as appropriate and monitor response to exercise. The recreational therapists are trained professionals with experience working with people with Parkinson’s disease. Fitness I, II and III are designed to provide fitness opportunities for participants across the continuum of their disease. Free fitness assessments are available Wednesday afternoon and are required prior to participating in the fitness classes. You will meet with a physical therapist for a 30 minute assessment to evaluate your walking, balance, strength and more. To make an appointment call 651-326-2178.
